Erwin Schwab ( born September 16, 1964 in Heppenheim ) is an amateur astronomer and works at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research.

Schwab has focused on the observations of asteroids and comets. He discovered numerous asteroids at different observatories. May be mentioned the minor planet ( 204852 ) and Frankfurt ( 243440 ) Colonia, discovered on the Taunus Observatory of the Physical Society of Frankfurt. As well as the minor planet ( 241418 ) Darmstadt, ( 263 932 ) and Speyer ( 243536 ) Mannheim, discovered on the Tzec Maun Observatories in Mayhill ( U.S.) or Moorook (Australia).

At the suggestion of the Spanish Observatorio de La Sagra, the asteroid was named after Erwin Schwab 185 638.
