Erwin Skamrahl

Erwin Skamrahl ( born March 8, 1958 in Oberg ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympian, who was a successful 400 - meter runner in the 1980s. With the 4 x 400 - meter relay 1982 he became European Champion and won 1983 World Championship silver. By profession he was a police officer with the Police of Lower Saxony and was on duty at the national riot police Lower Saxony in Hanover. Later he worked at the plant protection of Volkswagen AG. Bests: 200m: 20.44 s and 400 meters: 44.50 s (both 1983).

Erwin Skamrahl first started in 1981 for the Police Sports Club Hannover, later he was one of the SV Union United Ilsede on, from 1986 VfL Wolfsburg. In his playing days, he was 1.78 m tall and weighed 67 kg.

For his services to the sport in Lower Saxony, he was inducted into the Honor Gallery of Lower Saxony Sports of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History, 1998.
