Erwin Stricker

Erwin Stricker ( born August 15, 1950 in Mattighofen, Upper Austria, † 28 September 2010 in Bolzano, South Tyrol ) was an Italian alpine skier and entrepreneur South Tyrolean origin.

Life

Stricker was born in Mattighofen, its coming from South Tyrol parents returned to South Tyrol back in 1955 and initially settled in Gossensaß and then in Varna. In 1969 he was included in the then very successful National Team (see also Gustav Thöni ). He participated in races in all disciplines in part, in 1972 and 1976 Olympian and 1976 Italian Champion in the downhill and 1977 in combination. In Skiweltcup he twice reached the podium and 15 other rankings in the top ten. In 1979 he ended his sports career and became a consultant for winter sports and entrepreneurs.

During his active period, and afterwards Stricker has contributed technical innovations for development of alpine ski sports. So he developed curved poles and an aerodynamic helmet for departure, vulture beak ski tips, knee pads and a ski suit. In memory of his numerous accidents he pushed in the slalom the use of helmets. In 1979 he had the first snow gun South Tyrol up. His Hire Rent and go is represented through franchisees around 600 times in 450 ski resorts all over the world. Along the Vinschgerbahn built Stricker on a bicycle rental. Most recently, he was involved in the establishment of the Chinese ski area Dolomiti Saibei in a circle Chongli in Zhangjiakou and initiated the trade fairs Prowinter and Alpitec at the Messe Bozen (under the name Alpitec China is the exhibition held in Beijing).

He married in 1978 the Dutch Linda Esser and had two children with her. Stricker, who last lived in Merano, was diagnosed with cancer years ago and died on 28 September 2010 at Bolzano hospital from the effects of a brain tumor.
