Erwin Thaler

Erwin Thaler ( born May 21, 1930 in Innsbruck, † 29 November 2001) was an Austrian Bobsportler.

Erwin Thaler celebrated in 1963 in Igls as the bronze medal winner in the four-man together with Adolf Koxeder, Josef Nairz and Reinhold Durnthaler his first international success. In 1964 he won jointly with Durnthaler, Koxeder and Nairz behind the four-man Canadian Victor Emery at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck the silver medal. In Two- pilot came on the eighth. In 1965 he won together with Koxeder in Cortina d'Ampezzo the gold medal in pairs. This success both repeated a year later in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and with Durnthaler 1967 in Igls. In 1967 he won with Durnthaler also in L' Alpe d' Huez the world title in two-man bob. At the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble Thaler repeated his success from Innsbruck in the four-man event with Durnthaler, Herbert Gruber and Josef Eder and won behind the Bob the Italian Eugenio Monti the silver medal. In the two-man bob he missed a second medal in fourth place just barely. 1969 won the Doppelthaler / Durnthaler again the European title in two-man bob in Cervina.

In 1996 he received the Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.
