Erythema

Erythema (erythema, from Ancient Greek ἐρύθημα erythema, redness ', ' inflammation ') is a dermatological term for a skin redness caused by an increased blood flow due to vasodilation.

The erythema may occur in different size, color intensity, boundary and dynamics. It can be a symptom of various infectious diseases and skin diseases, but also occur under normal circumstances (for example blush: Erythema pudoris ). In contrast to skin bleeds erythema can discolor temporarily by pressure.

Redness, which affects about 90% of the body surface referred to as erythroderma.
