Es Mercadal

Es Mercadal (Spanish: El Mercadal ) is a municipality in the north of the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca. In Es Mercadal 5425 people ( as of 1 January 2013), of which 974 (as of 2008 ) in Fornells. Es Mercadal is 21 km from the island's capital, Mahon removed.

The district Migjorn Gran, who originally belonged to Es Mercadal, 1989 was an independent municipality.

History

Previously used Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans, the strategic location of Es Mercadal with the port of Fornells, the Byzantines made ​​it thereafter subject and finally the Arabs.
