Esa Pirnes

Esa Pirnes ( born April 1, 1977 in Oulu) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since February 2014 again at Kärpät Oulu of the SM- liiga under contract.

Career

Esa Pirnes began his career as a hockey player 1995 Kärpät Oulu, for which he was held for four years in the second-class I- divisioona. He then moved to the Espoo Blues, for whom he played until 2001 in the SM- liiga before he received a contract from their league rivals Tappara Tampere, with which he was vice-champion in 2002 and 2003 for the first time Finnish champion in his career. In addition, he received the Champion Season 2002/ 03 due to its services, the Jari Kurri trophy - best player of the playoffs and was elected to the SM- liiga All- Star Team. Then the Los Angeles Kings were aware of the Centre, who selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 2003 in the sixth round as the 174th overall player. In the 2003 /04 season the Finn scored in 57 games for the Kings in the National Hockey League scorer eleven points, including three goals. Due to the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season he returned Pirnes back in his native Finland, where he received a contract with Lukko Rauma, where he played just one season long as the following season at his former club Espoo Blues.

In the years 2006 to 2008 Pirnes was first active in other European countries, as it ran aground two years for Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elitserien. Then he moved in summer 2008 to Atlant Mytischtschi in the newly formed Continental Hockey League. After a good season with 50 points from 51 KHL games for Atlant Mytischtschi the Finn returned to the 2009/10 season back in his homeland and signed a contract with Jokerit. 12 September 2011 Esa Pirnes signed a contract for four weeks at EV train, he subsequently extended until end of season.

Between May 2012 and February 2014 he was responsible for AIK Stockholm and there was one of the best points collectors of the team. Then he returned to his hometown club.

Internationally

For Finland Pirnes participated exclusively at the U20 World Youth Championship in 1997 at junior level. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008 and in the years 2003 to 2009 in the Euro Hockey Tour.
