Esbly

Esbly is a commune with 5882 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne.

Geography

Esbly located eight kilometers northeast of Lagny -sur- Marne. The municipality is crossed by the rivers Marne and the Grand Morin.

History

Counter in 1140 the village was first mentioned as Capela Esbeliaci. The present name the community since 1789. During the 13th century lived in the village of 280 people. 1228 was in place, the first mill, a still existing mill dates from 1530. 1185 consecrated bishop of Meaux, a first chapel, the present church dates from 1692. Since 1833, efforts were a railway line from Paris to Strasbourg to set up. 1849 was the village 's railway station, which led to a rapid growth in population. For the construction of the railway line they picked 300 to 400 migrant workers from Belgium and the Auvergne. 1894, the village had 600 inhabitants, there was a post office and a local police station.
