Eschau (Bas-Rhin)

Eschau is a commune with 4746 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is located south in the agglomeration to Strasbourg. To the east of the site the Department road runs next door 468 The Rhine forms the border with the Federal Republic of Germany. Are three lakes between Eschau and the northerly adjacent Illkirch- Graffenstaden. Eschau is a member of the Urban Community of Strasbourg.

Structures

Built in the late 10th century Ottonian and Romanesque abbey church of Saint Trophimus is one of the oldest churches in Alsace. Parts of the ornate cloister ( 11th - 12th century) and the Romanesque interior of the former monastery Eschau are now in the Musée de l' Oeuvre Notre Dame in Strasbourg.
