Escravos River

The Escravos is a river in southern Nigeria. The name comes from the Portuguese and means something like "slaves"; the region was one of the main hubs for the slave trade between Nigeria and the United States in the 18th century. The Escravos is an outflow of the Niger River and is 56 km long. It flows into the Gulf of Guinea.

The oil company Chevron promotes daily 350,000 barrels of oil from the area around the mouth of the Escravos.
