Esperanza (Santa Fe)

The town of Esperanza is located in the department of Las Colonias in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, about 40 km west of the provincial capital, Santa Fe. It has about 36,000 inhabitants ( 2001).

History

The first settlers who came after Esperanza were German, Swiss, French, Belgian and Luxembourg. These 200 families arrived between late January and early June of 1856. Each of the colonists family received about 33 acres of land. The German families settled the west and the French-speaking in the east of the designated area.

On May 12, 1861 a first election was held and ( German and French) elected five representatives of the two cantons in the city parliament.
