Esquire Records

Esquire Records was a British jazz and blues record label that was founded in 1953.

The label Esquire Records was founded somewhat later with the label rate to the known labels of the English Nachrkriegsjazz; so was Esquire the first label, which published Modern Jazz in England on record in the UK.

Esquire was founded in 1947 by Carlo Krahmer and Peter Newbrook and first published recordings of Victor Feldman, Jimmy Deuchar and Tommy Whittle. For Esquire female artists were the musicians who played in the London Club Eleven, like Ronnie Scott, Johnny Dankworth, Dennis Rose, Tony Crombie, Don Rendell, Laurie Morgan, Tommy Pollard and Tony Kinsey. Esquire also published photographs of U.S. labels such as for Dial Records Charlie Parker's recordings and Al Haig, Chubby Jackson, Cy Laurie, Ray McKinley, Tyree Glenn, Benny Green, Zoot Sims, the Modern Jazz Quartet and the Prestige catalog with music of Miles Davis, Gene Ammons and others; also title of the Chicago blues label Delmark and the Swedish Metronome label. The company thus resulted in a Swedish jazz in the UK and brought out records by Lars Gullin, Bengt Hallberg and Arne Domnérus.

In the early years of the company, the catalog consisted of a series of 78ern; Appeared in 1952 in Esquire, the first 25 -inch LP of modern jazz. In this format, it published until 1956 by 25 albums, mostly in 10- inch format. During this time, were also brought to the 40 EPs on the market, as in 1956 St.Thomas / Strode Rode by Sonny Rollins. One of the early LPs in 12- inch format were Tenor Conclave by John Coltrane and Humphrey Lyttelton album Delving Back with Humph (1959).

The record company existed until the mid- 1970s; by Carlo Krahmer death it was continued by his widow, Greta. In the 1980s, Peter Newbrook took over, who died in 2009, the re-release of Esquire jazz catalog in a " Esquire Treasure Chest " said series of LPs.
