EÅŸref ArmaÄŸan

Eşref Armağan ( born 1955 in Istanbul) is a Turkish painter. He is regarded as a scientific phenomenon and important figure in the modern history of painting.

The artist, who grew up with a brother in middle-class family, is blind from birth, painted objects and living beings but as a sighted person. At the age of six years he made the first drawings with pencil and scratched with nails figures in cardboard. His father, who recognized the talent of his son early, bought him toy miniatures of people, vehicles and homes that Eşref Armağan groped and then drew. This technique of touch he applies today.

At 18, he learned the art of perspective painting and used for the first time shadows in his paintings. He began to paint with your fingers - first on paper, then with oil paint on canvas, and later, at the age of 42 years, also in watercolor. At the time he was already internationally known and art lovers all over the world interested in his pictures. Did he, his works initially only in event centers by blind associations from, they were now shown in over 20 exhibitions in Turkey and abroad.

In 2004 he examined the Canadian psychologist John Kennedy of the University of Toronto. Even the neurologist Alvaro Pascual -Leone of Harvard Medical School invited him to an investigation. Scientists observed with imaging his brain activity - it was found that these correspond to those of a normal-sighted people.

Eşref Armağan is married to Nilifat Armağan and lives in his native city.
