ESRO

The European Space Research Organization ( ESRO ) was a European Space Research Organization. The ESRO was founded on June 14, 1962 by ten countries (Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany ). The ESRO built scientific satellite, launched by the U.S. in its orbit.

In parallel, the European Launcher Development Organisation ( ELDO ) was founded to launch satellites themselves can, but this did not succeed. On the European Space Conference from 12 to 14 November 1968, Bad Godesberg, the merger of the ESRO with the ELDO was advised to form a single organization. On 30 May 1975, the merger of today's European Space Agency (ESA ) was performed.

The ESRO was awarded in 1968 by MBB the proposal for a flyby probe name " MESO " which was to explore the planet Mercury. The proposal was rejected in July 1969.
