Essar Group

Essar Group is an Indian company based in Mumbai.

The company was founded in 1969 by brothers Shashi Ruia and the Indian Ravi Ruia. In the early years, the company has worked in the construction industry. Increasingly over the years it has expanded its activities and launched several subsidiaries. With its subsidiaries, Essar Steel, Essar Steel Algoma, Essar Oil, Essar Shipping, Essar Hypermart and The Gates Mobile operates Essar Group in India and internationally around the world. About 75,000 people are in the Essar Group and its subsidiaries employed (as of 2011).
