Essay (Orne)
Essay is a commune of 540 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Orne in Basse-Normandie region; it belongs to the arrondissement Alençon and Le Canton Mêle -sur- Sarthe.
History
- At the time of the Gauls was the capital of the essay Essuis, a nation which began immediately negotiations with Julius Caesar.
- In 1088 the Bishop of Bayeux mentions a castle in essay as one of the most important of the house Bellême
- Since the conquest of Normandy by Philip II essay belonged directly to the crown.
