Est Region (Burkina Faso)

Est is one of 13 regions in the West African nation of Burkina Faso is divided administratively. Capital is Fada N'Gourma. The region lying to the east includes the provinces Gnagna, Gourmand, Komondjari, Kompienga and Tapoa.

In contrast to the Mossi Plateau, the Est region is sparsely populated with 1,181,332 inhabitants on 46,256 km ² and so it is that many migrants, especially Mossi and Fulbe, join the long-established Gourmantché.

The Est region has the largest nature reserves in the country: the National Park Arly, the Burkinabe part of the W National Park and the réserves of Pama, Arli, Singou and Kourtiagou. West of Pama is the Kompiengastausee.

The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture. In 45 mines mineral resources are brought to light, including copper and gold.
