The Estadio Kukulcan is a baseball stadium in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. The stadium is the home ground for the Leones de Yucatán from the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB ).

The name of the stadium Kukulcan, comes from the Mayan mythology and means " the feathered serpent " god of resurrection and reincarnation.

Was opened the Estadio Kukulcan on March 23, 1982 with the play of Leones de Yucatán Piratas de Campeche against. The stadium is one of the largest and most important baseball stadiums in Mexico.

Use

The Estadio Kukulcan is part of the building built in the 1980s sport complex " Unidad Deportiva Kukulcan ", in the metropolis of Merida. The baseball culture has a more than 100 -year tradition in Yucatán and enjoys a very high popularity.

Since 1954, the Leones de Yucatán play in the LMB. They won three league titles so far in 1957, 1984 and 2006 and five championship final series, were held since 1982 at the Estadio Kukulcan.

The stadium has a lower and an upper level, as well as seat grandstand behind the outer perimeter ( Outfield Bleachers ).

Concerts

In Estadio Kukulcan are also frequently held pop concerts, like the legendary concert of Mexican singer Fey during her ' La Noche Tierna ' Tour 1996.
