Estancia is a place in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The village with 1,584 inhabitants ( as of 2000) is located in Torrance County and is the county seat ( county seat ).

History

Even before at the site of today's Estancia, a settlement was established, this was listed on the various maps of the region. Thus we find, for example, on a map from 1779 at the location of the place the note " of enemies destroyed ."

The construction of the Santa Fe Central Railroad Valley in 1900 opened up for settlers. A post office was opened in September 1903, a private school in November of the same year. Likewise, a department store and various other shops have been established. Estancia 1905 was intended for the administrative seat of Torrance County, but only on October 4, 1909 officially registered as a church.

At the beginning of the 20th century was Estancia, which was characterized primarily agricultural, moreover, for two decades the headquarters of the New Mexico Central Railway.

Infrastructure

By Estancia runs the New Mexico State Route 41, which is about 17 kilometers south of the U.S. Highway 61 connected. In addition, the city has with the eastern Estancia Municipal Airport has its own airport.
