Estanislao del Campo

Estanislao del Campo ( born February 7, 1834 in Buenos Aires, † November 6, 1880 ) was an Argentine poet. He is the author of the major works of Gaucholiteratur, Fausto, and wrote under the pseudonym partly Anastasio el Pollo.

Life

Del Campo was Porteño, native inhabitants of the Argentine capital. As a kid from a good family, he studied at the Academia Porteña Federal. Campo later pursued a military career and fought against the troops of General Justo José de Urquiza.

The idea of ​​a Gaucho version of Faust came del Campo at the suggestion of Eduardo Gutierrez to the joint visit to a performance of the opera Faust by Charles Gounod at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In this version, a Gaucho reported another of his visit to the opera and explains this in the local dialect ( Rioplatense ) the action.
