Estedt is a town and a district of the Hanseatic City Guard Insert in the Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony- Anhalt.

History

In the vicinity of the place it came in April 1945 by SS men to mass shootings of 122 ( 108 according to other sources ) concentration camp inmates on a death march from a satellite camp of concentration camp Dora -Mittelbau. To them, a memorial commemorates in a common grave in the local cemetery.

On 1 January 2011 the then independent municipality was incorporated together with 17 other municipalities in the Hanseatic city Gardelegen. The municipality had prior to the incorporation 389 inhabitants ( 31 December 2009) and an area of 14.85 km ².
