Estée Lauder Companies is a cosmetics company headquartered in New York City. The company is listed on the stock index S & P 500.

The company was founded in 1946 by Estee Lauder ( 1908-2004 ), with her husband Joseph Lauder as Chief Financial Officer. They built the business in the following decades, a globally successful cosmetics company, and indeed against the incumbents Helena Rubinstein, Elizabeth Arden and Revlon.

With the later CEO Arnold van Ameringen Estée Lauder created in 1953 a bath oil from flower and herb extracts, his name: Youth dew ( dew of youth). Preservation of the beauty and freshness of youth in the long term were promised as its properties. Became a hit product from the bath oil. 1962 was the first time Estée Lauder celebrities and supermodels making display advertising for their products. In 1982 took over Leonard Lauder, the older son of Estée Lauder, President and CEO, the management of the company.

  • Aramis (1965, the first men's grooming line since 1987 Aramis Lab Series )
  • Bobbi Brown,
  • MAC Cosmetics (1994, first with 51 % of the shares and 1998 with 100%)
  • Clinique.

Other related lines are Aveda and Origins. The Group has the licenses for the cosmetic brands Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Kiton and Michael Kors.

The corporate empire Estée Lauder Companies was taxed in 2004 to a value of about ten billion U.S. dollars.

Since 1 July 2004, William Lauder, grandson of Estée Lauder and son of Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Managing Director of the Group. To the Board of Directors ( " Board of directors" ) are the following people: Charlene Barshefsky, Rose Bravo, Lynn de Rothschild, Mellody Hobson, Irvine Hockaday, Aerin Lauder, Leonard Lauder, Ronald Lauder, William Lauder, Richard Parsons, Marshall Rose and Barry Sternlicht.
