Estevan

Estevan (City of Estevan ) is the eighth-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located in the southeast of the province on the Souris River.

History

The first settlement of Estevan began in 1892 with the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Already in 1899 a village was created in 1906 a settlement was already grown up. On May 1, 1957 Estevan to the city ( City ) has been declared as the city had reached the requirements for that population of over 5,000. The current population is about 10,000.

In 1931 Estevan fell by a miners' strike in the headlines. During a conference organized by the trade union demonstration, there was a clash with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, during which three workers were killed.

Economy

The economy in Estevan is dominated by coal mining, power generation and oil and gas extraction.
