Estêvão Cacella

Estêvão Cacella (* 1585 in Avis, † 1630 in Tibet ) was a Jesuit missionary from Portugal.

On his missions in Asia, he came to the Himalayas. He was the first European in Bhutan. There he met Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel and stayed for about eight months in the country. His extensive correspondence from the Cheri Monastery at his superiors in which he reported on the progress of his stay, are considered only Western Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel records.
