Estonia national basketball team

The Estonian national basketball team of the Lords is a selection of Estonian basketball player. It represents the Estonian Basketball Association at international level, for example in friendly matches against the national teams of other national associations, but also at European Championships European continental federation ULEB or at the World Championships of the World Federation FIBA as well as in the basketball competitions of the Olympic Games.

The first international match with Estonian participation was part of the Olympic basketball tournament in I. Berlin against France on 7 August 1936. There they took the best-ever Olympic position at the Olympic Games with the ninth. The greatest successes to date were two fifth places at the European Basketball Championship in 1937 and 1939.

History

At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 stood as the first time basketball in the Olympics program, joined the Estonian national team for the first time at an international tournament, won the first group match against France, the other matches against the Philippines and the U.S. have been lost.

The Second World War Estonia interrupted all basketball activities. In 1940, Estonia was busy by the Soviet Union. Only after the revolution in Estonia late 80s; Early 90s took the national team again in international matches in part, and in 1991 was again FIBA member.
