Ethernet in the First Mile

Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM ) is a protocol that is defined in the Ethernet standard IEEE 802.3ah.

The EFM protocol has the following functions:

• Constant monitoring of access lines ( first / last mile) to Ethernet
• Monitoring of equipment which has been installed at the customer ( Dying Gasp )
• Review of a line at start-up (automated switching of loops)
