Ethiopian general election, 2000

The parliamentary elections in Ethiopia in 2000 were the first parliamentary elections since the enactment of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, while the second general election at all.

The elections, in which the members of the Ethiopian Parliament - specifically the lower house (People's House of Representatives ) - as well as that of the regional parliaments of the individual federal states of Ethiopia were chosen were overshadowed by manipulation allegations, as the ruling coalition of four regional parties, the Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian People ( EPRDF ), the victory for themselves quickly claimed and received nearly 88 percent of the 547 parliamentary seats.

The National Electoral Council of Ethiopia organized the elections and set the date for the appointment of the parliamentary elections on 14 May 2000. 's Somali region, the choice went to 31 August 2000 on. The turnout was 89.8 percent, as their voices 19,607,841 duties of the 21,834,806 registered voters.

Regional Councils of State

The elections to the Regional State Councils in 2000 were the first elections in Ethiopia, where the regional parliaments (Regional Councils of State ) of the individual regions of Ethiopia were chosen.

In the Tigray People's Liberation Front of Tigray won all 152 seats.
