Ethiopian Social Democratic Party

The Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party ( Amharic ኢትዮጵያ ማህበረ - ዴሞክራሲ ፌደራላዊ ፓርቲ, English " Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party ", abbreviation ESDFP ) is a social democratic and federalist political party in Ethiopia.

The leadership of the Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party consists of the Chairman, Dr. Beyene Petros official party, the vice party chairman Mulu Meja and the Secretary General Alema Koira.

At the last legislative elections to the national Ethiopian Bundesparlemant 15 May 2005, the Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party was a member party of the opposition electoral and party alliance of the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces. This party alliance won together a total of about 52 seats of the possible 527 parliamentary seats in the People's House of Representatives.

The leader of the Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party, Dr. Beyene Petros, announced in February 2006 that he would like to modify the official name of the party in Ethiopian Social Democratic Party. He would thus emphasize the connections of the Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party to the traditional Social Democratic movement in Europe.
