Ethnic religion

Tribal religion is a common term for science in religion religions whose followers are connected by descent and common cultural tradition. A hallmark of tribal religion is the restriction to a relatively small circle of followers and a particular settlement area. Ethnicity and religion are here inseparable. Other designations are traditional religious or ethnic religion.

One problem with the term is that it is a global collective term, the individual characteristics of a specific tribal religion, however, are local in nature. Many elements of historical and contemporary tribal religions are locally well mixed with other cultural elements, such as the religions of the world. These overlapping and mixing are described by the term syncretism. Many tribal religions possess shamanistic influences.
