Phenetole is an organic chemical compound and a characteristically smelling, colorless liquid. Since phenetole can be formally regarded as ethers of phenol and ethanol, it is also designated as ethyl phenyl or ethoxybenzene. The latter is the systematic name for this compound.
Representation
On a laboratory scale can be obtained phenetole by etherification of phenol, for example, by reaction with diethyl sulfate in the presence of a base.
Use
Phenetole is used as special solvents in the laboratory and in many organic syntheses.
