Etiam si omnes, ego non

Etiam si omnes, ego non ( freely translated: Even if everyone can join in, I do not ) is a Latin dictum.

The phrase became a political slogan to bring a resistant attitude especially in the 20th century, in times of dictatorship expressed. So used it Philipp Freiherr von Boese stock. Became famous for the slogan especially by Joachim Fest, who heard the sentence was ten years old by his father and I do not him again took up the title of his posthumously published autobiography. Given the circumstances at the time the sentence should express that one should follow the actions of others, regardless of his own convictions and refuse an unjust regime.

The phrase goes back to the Gospel of Matthew. It says in the Latin version ( Vulgate ): Et si omnes scandalizati fuerint in te ego numquam scandalizabor ( 26.33 VUL ), what with And if all take in the translation unit in you thought - I never! ( 26.33 EU) is reproduced. In the Gospel, the set of Simon Peter, Jesus is spoken, then still denied later.
