Étienne Terrus

Étienne Terrus (* September 1857 in Elne, department of Pyrénées- Orientales, † in June 1922 ) was a French painter of Catalan origin.

Life

In winter 1874/75 Terrus came with 17 years to Paris, where he became a student at the École des Beaux -Arts (EBA ); inter alia, he was taught there by Alexandre Cabanel. Because he - by his own admission - did not get along with the big-city life, he returned after a short time back in his hometown and left this time of his life any more.

New friends was, inter alia Terrus with André Derain, Aristide Maillol, Henri Matisse, Daniel de Monfreid and other artists from the Nabis group.

For a long time almost forgot to Elne remembered a few years ago back to Étienne Terrus and 1994 erected in his honor a museum.
