Etolin Island

Etolin Iceland is in southeastern Alaska ( Panhandle ), this island in the Alexander Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean.

It lies between the Prince of Wales Island in the west and the mainland of Alaska to the east. The island is about 878 km ², 48 km long and 35 km wide. The island got its name from Adolf Etolin (1840-1845), the governor of Russian America.

Today Etolin is part of the Tongass National Forest, the south of the island is designated as Wilderness Area. On the island there is a population of elk that were brought from the mainland to Etolin.
