Etowah County, Alabama

The Etowah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gadsden, which was after Colonel James Gadsden, a former soldier, diplomat and president of a railroad company, named.

Geography

The County is located in northeast Alabama, is in the east just 60 km from Georgia and has an area of 1421 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. History

Etowah County was formed on December 7, 1866 as Baine County, named after David W. Baine, a Confederate general. On 1 December 1868, was renamed in Etowah County, a word from the language of the Cherokee Indians.
