Étrabonne

Étrabonne is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Étrabonne situated at an altitude of 252 m above sea level, 8 km northwest of Saint -Vit and about 21 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, on the southern edge of the height of Le Moutherot.

The area of ​​5.52 km ² municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The main part of the area is slightly undulating and mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, and there are also some forest areas. The only above-ground river is a stream which rises in the Source des Trois Rois and near the castle disappears underground to re- emerge at Courchapon in the Source de la Roche. Otherwise, the precipitation seeps directly in karstic terrain. To the northwest, the terrain gradually rises to the heights of Le Moutherot and Bois de Ruppe. These form the northeastern foothills of the Massif de la Serre. With 340 meters, the highest elevation of Étrabonne is achieved in the Bois de Ruppe.

Neighboring communities of Étrabonne are Jallerange, Le Moutherot and Courchapon in the north, Lantenne - Vertière in the east, Mercey -le- Grand and Romain in the south and Rouffange and Pagney in the West.

History

Since the 11th century Étrabonne formed its own rule. The local noble family is documented since 1084 and held the position as vassals of the Archbishop of Besançon. In the castle, the chapel was founded in 1140, dedicated to the Three Kings. These are especially revered today by the village population. Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy in 1436 created the Bailiwick Étrabonne.

End of the 15th century died from the noble family, and the rule Étrabonne passed to the family d' Aumont and 1723 Jena Pourcheresse, owner of the iron works of Fraisans over. Together with the Franche -Comté Étrabonne came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2001 Étrabonne is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes du Val Saint- Vitois.

Attractions

The present church Saint -Martin was built from 1829 to 1830, while the bell tower dates from 1929. In-room amenities include the remarkable statues of the Three Kings from the 11th and 12th centuries. The seat of power is originally from the 11th century and has two round towers of this period. The remaining buildings learned over time multiple transformations. Also worth mentioning is the former Maison du Bailly with two towers ( 15th and 16th centuries ). The old town is characterized by different farmhouses dating from the 17th to the 19th century in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté.

Population

With 194 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Étrabonne is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 191 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Étrabonne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including a transport company and mechanical workshops. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Mercey -le- Grand by Jallerange. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 11 km. Further road links exist with Le Moutherot and Rouffange.
