Etran Finatawa

Etran Finatawa (read: Etran Finataua ) is a music group from Niger. The musicians come from two different peoples of Niger: the Tuareg and Wodaabe the.

Members

Etran Finatawa consists of five musicians, three Wodaabe and Tuareg two. Alhousseini Mohammed Anivolla and Gouma Abdoul Jamil are Tuareg and play bass and electric guitar. Bammo Agonla is a singer and has a rattle tied to the foot, called Akayawere. Bagui Bouga plays on a calabash and Mamane Tankari on a Assakalabo, which is a calabash floating in a pool of water. Other instruments include the mortar drum Tende and the Hirsehalmflöte Odiliri.

Formation

The group was founded in 2004 at the Festival du Desert in Essakane in Timbuktu. The Tuareg music group Etran and the Peul Wodaabe music group Finatawa traveled together with the SUV. Sandra van Edig, the manager of both groups, organized to some songs played together at the festival, which the audience liked it so much that they continue to work together making music.

Style

Etran Finatawa is a world music band that plays a style of music Desert Blues is called. The name Etran Finatawa is composed of the Tamashek and the Fulfulde and means star of tradition. The songs are about various topics, such as beautiful women, animals, the drought, the suffering, festivals and some of the political situation in Niger.
