Ettersburg is a municipality in the north of the circle of Weimar (Thuringia) and part of the joint management Nordkreis Weimar.

Location

The district Etter Mountain is at the northern edge of the forest of the Great Etter Mountain. From then on, the transition begins in the fertile Thuringian Basin. The country road in 1054 roams the east district of the district.

History

A Deed of Count Berno of cross- ford from the year 1089 is considered to be documented first mention of the place. The Count donated an Augustinian convent, which was subordinate to the monastery Mainz. Near the village a castle, which was named after Bernos son Wichmann was born. Attractions

Memorial Buchenwald concentration camp

The former Buchenwald concentration camp located south of Ettersburg on the Great Etter Mountain and belongs to the district of Weimar. Ettersburg and the camp grounds are through the " time corridor ", a, connected to each other as part of the Capital of Culture project again exposed medieval hunting trail. Intention of the project was to connect the contrasts between the Etter Mountain Castle, to create a center of culture of Weimar Classicism and the horror of the years 1937 to 1945. Church

Today's collegiate corresponds to the choir of the Augustinian Canons, founded in 1085. It is of Roman origin. This choir was used 10 to 20 canons for their daily worship. From there they went to the chaplaincy in the surrounding villages. 1525 left the last provost with some canons the pen; they fled because they feared looting by the farmers. The study of history began in 1782 with the publication of three documents from the ducal archives at Weimar; On Archives Mitschke presented in 1893 the remaining data together.

The choir room ( ceiling and walls) was restored from 1986 to 1989 according to the findings of the recent remodeling of 1863. The roof was re-roofed and grouted the south wall and different color, according to the findings. The clock tower and the tower roof was repaired in 1985. The Peternell organ was restored in 2011.
