Étueffont

Étueffont ( formerly German Staufen ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté. The municipality was created in 1973 by merger of Étueffont Skin (formerly Oberstaufen ) and Étueffont -Bas (formerly sub- Baptisms ).

Geography

Étueffont is located at 450 m above sea level, about eleven miles north- northeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in a hilly area in the southern foothills of the Vosges, on both sides of the river of the Madeleine, between the hills of the Forêt de Roppe in the south and in the north Baerenkopf. It is located in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

The area of ​​12.53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the Vosges foothills. The central part of the area is traversed in a north-south direction from the Valley of the Madeleine. This occurs from the village of the Vosges mountains in the basin of Étueffont. Further south, the valley widens to about two kilometers wide valley. The Madeleine is replaced by several short tributaries, the members strongly with their valleys, the relief, a further influx. In hollows, especially in a valley west of Étueffont -Bas are numerous ponds that were once created for fish farming. To the south of the municipality of soil in the hilly Vosges foothills extends to the headwaters of the Autruche on the edge of the Forêt de Roppe.

To the north of the valley of Étueffont the terrain rises rapidly to the densely wooded slopes on both sides of the Madeleine Valley. On its eastern side, the valley of the Tête le Moine (790 m), flanked on the western side of the Fayé. In the latter, the highest elevation of Étueffont is achieved with 915 m. These two heights are among the flung to the south hills of Baerenkopfes.

The municipality consists of the villages Étueffont Étueffont Skin (450 m) in a basin of Madeleine on Vogesenfuß and Étueffont -Bas (421 m) in the valley of the Madeleine and a few farms. Neighboring communities of Étueffont are Lamadeleine -Val -des- Anges to the north, Rougemont- le -Château in the east, the south and Anjoutey Grosmagny and Petit Magny in the West.

History

Already in the late Middle Ages settled in Étueffont metal manufacturing to where forging, mining for lead as well as the production of charcoal were important. In the course of the 19th century weavers came and in 1890 added a spinning mill. In the fall of 1913 Étueffont was connected by a narrow gauge railway line, which led to Belfort about Les Errues, to the French railway network. After the Second World War, the company was set, however. Until the merger in 1973 Étueffont Skin and Étueffont -Bas formed two separate communities whose municipal area is, however, grown together almost without a break today. In 1984, the municipality of the Canton Giromagny in the Canton of Rougemont- le -Château. Today Étueffont is the administrative seat of the comprehensive 14 municipalities municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Sous- Vosgien.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Valbert was rebuilt in the early 18th century. From the 19th century, the Chapelle du Mont Bonnet comes on a hill east of the village. Population

With 1465 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Étueffont one of the smaller communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort.
