EU-LAC Foundation

The EU-Lateinamerika/Karibik-Stiftung (EU- LAC Foundation ) is a foundation that aims to increase the economic, cultural, political and scientific cooperation between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean. Its headquarters are in Hamburg. The creation of the Foundation was on the VI. EU - Latin America Summit (EU- LAC Summit ) 2010 decided in Madrid.

President of the EU - LAC Foundation is the former European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero- Waldner. Managing Director is the Peruvian diplomat Jorge Valdez. On 7 November 2011, the EU -Latin America and Caribbean Foundation was officially opened. Hamburg's Mayor Olaf Scholz emphasized in his speech that the Hanseatic city have already linked since 1827 relations with countries such as Brazil. In addition, the Port of Hamburg was in the 19th century as "the" emigration port towards South America.
