Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus oil (Latin oleum eucalypti, French Essence d' eucalypte, english Eucalyptus oil ).

From the plant genus Eucalyptus, there are over 500 species. However, only the following species have commercial importance as essential oils:

  • Eucalyptus globulus ( Labillardiere )
  • Eucalyptus citriodora
  • Eucalyptus dives
  • Eucalyptus fructicetorum

Extraction

The main growing area is China (3000-4000 tons of eucalyptus oil / year ), formerly there were Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina. The eucalyptus trees grow after precipitation by again. Pure eucalyptus oil is 60 to 80 % from the previously mentioned eucalyptol cineol, and next to it still contains small amounts right -pinene and camphene and possibly some fenchone. In the crude oil to find the cough irritating aldehydes of butyric acid, caproic acid, and valerian. A different species of Eucalyptus amygdalina differs from the preceding by its clockwise rotation, which is based on a content of phellandrene. It is fungicidal against Candida tropicalis, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus aegypticus and others.
