Euclides (crater)

Euclides is a relatively small, bowl -shaped impact craters on the lunar front side in the plane of the Oceanus Procellarum, north-west of the Montes Riphaeus.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek mathematician Euclid.

The secondary crater Euclides D was named in 1976 after the German pathologist Hans Eppinger Jr., to honor his contributions to the field of research into liver disease and circulatory disorders. The appointment was canceled in 2002 by the IAU after Eppinger participation in experiments with inmates of the Dachau concentration camp during the period of National Socialism of the Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature ( WGPSN ) of the IAU was known.
