Eudorina

Eudorina colony

Eudorina is a genus of algae from the class of Chlorophyceae.

Description

Eudorina forms free-floating oval to spherical colonies of usually 32, rarely 64, 16 or 8 single cells apart are significantly in the periphery of a common jelly. The cells are usually in several rings ( floors ) located. The front is a four-cell ring, centrally located three over eight wreaths and rear there is a further four-cell wreath. This description is valid for a 32 -cell colony. In the structure of the cells correspond to those of Chlamydomonas. In the colonies, there is sometimes a front and rear end, said front cells have larger eyespots. , The cells grow to a length of 16 to 24 microns, the colonies have a length of 60 to 200 microns.

Reproduction

The asexual reproduction performed as follows: Each cell of a colony ( in some species, not the cells of the anterior rim ) form after three to six cell divisions within the curd a daughter colony which is freigestetzt after inversion ( inversion ).

Sexual reproduction takes place by Anisogamie or oogamy ( egg fertilization ). The yellow smooth-walled Dauerzygote initially remains in the jelly of the mother colony; they germinate under reduction division and dismisses at germination one or more flagellated cells.

Dissemination

Eudorina living planktonic in oligotrophic to eutrophic standing waters.
