Eugen-Helmlé-Übersetzerpreis

The Eugene - Helmle Translation Prize is a German literary prize, which is awarded annually alternately into German or German into French for an extraordinary literary translation service from French.

The award, which was from the Saarland Radio (SR ) and the Association of the metal and electrical industry Saarland Foundation called to life in 2004 and first awarded in 2005, is reminiscent of the Saarland, writer and translator Eugen Helmle.

It is endowed with 6,000 euros and will always be on 7 September, the birthday Helmlés awarded. In 2010, the city of Sulzbach / Saar joined as a third partner the previous institutions. The doping was therefore increased to 10,000 euros.

In evaluating the merits of the Sulzbacher citizen Eugen Helmle the area behind the local auditorium was officially called " Eugen- Helmle Forum" awarded on September 7, 2010. The sculptor Leo grain chest has made ​​a sculpture that commemorates Eugene Helmle. Before this sculpture a plaque with the names of previous award winners was admitted. The winner of 2010 is translated Olivier Le Lay, the numerous works of Peter Handke. Handke himself was present at the award ceremony.
