Eugen von Hippel

Eugen von Hippel ( born August 3, 1867 in Königsberg, † September 5, 1939 in Göttingen ) was a German physician and ophthalmologist.

Life and work

Von Hippel studied at the Universities of Giessen and Berlin medicine. In Heidelberg he was a pupil of Wilhelm Erb, and Theodore of Leber. In 1889 he received his doctorate in Göttingen. Four years later he completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg and was followed in 1909 a call to the chair of ophthalmology in Halle. After his retirement, he took over in 1914 the corresponding chair his father Arthur von Hippel ( 1841-1916 ) in Göttingen, where he remained until a year before his death.

Von Hippel decisive contributions to ophthalmology has done, is named after him are described by him - Hippelsche disease and the von Hippel- Lindau syndrome.
