Eugene Pierce Gillespie

Eugene Pierce Gillespie (* September 24, 1852 in Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, † December 16, 1899 ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Eugene Gillespie attended the common schools and the Allegheny College in Meadville. He then studied at St. Michael 's College in Toronto, Canada. After a subsequent law degree in 1874 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started working in Greenville in this profession. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1890 Gillespie was in the 25th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Republican Charles Champlain Townsend on March 4, 1891. Since he has not been confirmed in 1892, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1893. Then Gillespie practiced again as a lawyer in Greenville, where he died on 16 December 1899.
