Eugenio Caballero

Eugenio Caballero (born 1970 in Mexico City) is a Mexican Designer. For his work in the film Pan's Labyrinth, he won an Oscar in 2007.

Life

Caballero studied from 1989 to 1991 art and cinema history at the University of Florence. After that, he returned to Mexico and worked at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura and the Universidad Iberoamericana. After he first worked as a production designer and art director for music videos and commercials, he worked in 1996 as an assistant decorator with on the film William Shakespeare's Romeo Juliet by director Baz Luhrmann.

This was followed by some Mexican productions, including Santitos from 1999, for the Caballero at Cartagena Film Festival and the film won Gramado Festival. Both Santitos as well as for Seres humanos from the year 2001 he was at the Ariel Awards, the wichtigstens Mexican Film Award nominations, respectively, for a Silver Ariel. This he could win in 2004 for the film Zurdo do.

2006 Caballero was responsible for the production design in the film Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro. For his work, Caballero won an Academy Award in the category Best Art Direction at the Academy Awards 2007. With other honors, he was for this film at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, the Ariel Award Awards and the award ceremony of the Art Director 's Guild. There were also nominations at the BAFTA awards, the Goya and the Satellite Awards.

Since his success at the Oscars Caballero is reinforced in international films in use, among which are about Resident Evil: Extinction or The Runaways.
