Eugenio Monti

Eugenio Monti ( born January 23, 1928 in Toblach, South Tyrol, † December 1, 2003 in Belluno ) was an Italian bobsledder.

Career

Monti won in the fifties and sixties 10 medals at the World Championships in bobsled ( including 9 gold) and was at the Olympic Games in Grenoble 1968 Olympic champion in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh in. His complete set of medals 2 silver medals (two and four-man bobs ) at the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo and 2 bronze medals in 1964 in Innsbruck. Also in 1964 he was honored with the first Pierre de Coubertin medal because he offered later victors in the two-, Anthony Nash and Robin Dixon, a replacement for a broken bolt. With these successes, he is regarded as so far the most successful of all time bobsledder. According to him the 18th curve the Olympic track in Cesana (Turin 2006) was named.
