Eugenio Zanetti

Eugenio Zanetti ( * 1949 in Córdoba, Argentina) is an Argentine film director, writer, art director and production designer who won, among others, an Academy Award for Best Production Design, the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild and the renowned Argentine Thalia Award.

Life

Art director and production designer

Zanetti began his work as art director and production designer in the film industry in 1974 with the film La Tregua and previously served on the scenic features of almost twenty films.

At the Academy Awards in 1996 he won the Academy Award for Best Production Design in the film drama Restoration - Time (1995 ) by Michael Hoffman starring Robert Downey Jr., Sam Neill and David Thewlis in the lead roles.

In 1999 he was also awarded with Cindy Carr an Oscar nomination in this category for What Dreams May Come (1998) by Vincent Ward starring Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Max von Sydow. For the scenic features of this film with Jim Dultz, Tomas Voth and Christian Wintter he won the 1999 addition to the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild.

In 2007 he was part of the jury of the San Luis Cine International Festival in San Luis.

Theater, opera and musical director

Zanetti is also an internationally acclaimed director who today staged more than forty dramatic works and operas such as Un ballo in maschera and Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi, Madama Butterfly and Tosca by Giacomo Puccini and others up in Europe and South America.

Width Anerkannung he won as a director of musicals. For his productions of They Are Playing Our Song, Chicago and Dracula he received the prestigious Thalia Award, the Argentine equivalent of the American Tony Award. In addition, the Thalia Prize won as a writer for The White Queen and the Estrella de Mar from Mar del Plata for the productions of The Cherry Orchard by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, Chapter Two by Neil Simon, Stephen Sondheim and Company of Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen.
