Euna Lee

Euna Lee ( also Lee Seung -un, Korean 이승은 ) (born 1972 ) is a South Korea -born American journalist who has been working since 2005 for Current TV. She was known by her arrest by North Korea, their subsequent conviction to twelve years of hard labor and the pardon by Kim Jong- il.

Life

Euna Lee was born and raised in South Korea. She came to study at the Academy of Art University, which she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in film and radio in the United States. She is married to actor Michael Saldate, they have a daughter.

The arrest in North Korea 2009

Lee and her colleague, the journalist Laura Ling were detained in North Korea in 2009, after allegedly transgressed from China without visas, the border into North Korea. The Government of the United States protested against the imposed sentence of twelve years in labor camp and undertook diplomatic steps to secure the release of Lee and Ling. After a humanitarian lightning visit by former U.S. President Bill Clinton on 4 August 2009, both were pardoned by Kim Jong- il on the same day.
