The spotted spurge ( Euphorbia maculata, syn. Chamaesyce maculata (L.) Small), also known as spotted dwarf spurge, is a species of the genus Euphorbia (Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae ( Euphorbiaceae ).

Description

The Spotted spurge is an annual plant that reaches a height of 2 to 5 cm. It grows prostrate and is hairy. The leaves have the top often have a dark spot. All additional sheets are separated.

The flowers are green. The glands of the Hüllbechers are colored oval and reddish. The fruit capsules are lying, smooth and hairy. The seeds are wrinkled.

Occurrence

The home of spotted spurge is America, but it also occurs as entrained plant in southern and central Europe. It grows in step companies on paths and in pavement joints. It prefers dry warm, nutrient-rich sandy soil.
